Confident Zidane targets both La Liga and Champions League
Zidane wants Real Madrid to finish the season strongly
"We need to keep going until the end of the season".Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has insisted that he will not settle just for second place in La Liga. Real Madrid moved to just one point behind Barcelona thanks to their stunning 5-1 victory over Getafe. Goals from Karim Benzema, Isco, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo saw the All-Whites continue their winning form from midweek.
Although Pablo Sarabia got one back for the home side, it wasn’t enough to deny Zinedine Zidane’s side all three points.
"Today I wouldn't sign for that", said Zidane when asked if he would settle for winning Madrid's 11th Champions League at the expense of La Liga.Karim Benzema put in an accomplished performance last night and Zidane was pleased that his countryman did not let his head drop after it was decided that he will not be participating in the Euros.
"It did affect him and yes he is disappointed, but he is a professional and he knows that on the field he is very important for the team", Zidane said of his compatriot Benzema.
"Today he scored and had two assists, so he is very concentrated on what he is doing".
Barcelona face Valencia on Sunday and a victory can see the Blaugrana take their lead back up to 4 points. However, Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is determined to push Barcelona till the end of the season.
“You can never lose faith", said the Costa Rica international.
"We have to win the games that are left and fight for the titles.
"Sometimes after a Champions League game there is the tendency to relax, but the team knows what is at stake, what we want and we are very happy with our work today".
Zidane not taking Manchester City lightly
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane expects a tough Champions League semi-final football clash with Manchester City.Manchester City was considered to be the most accessible of the three possible rivals Madrid could face with the other semi pairing of Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich. Zidane's side have been favoured for having the second leg at their home ground, the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, reports Xinhua.
It is the sixth consecutive time that Madrid have had the return leg at home, but Zidane didn't want to speak about the luck of the draw.
"It is a semi-final and it will be a very very difficult game. The only positive thing about it is that we have the return in the Bernabeu," he said, brushing aside words from Manchester City sporting director, Txiki Beguristein that Madrid were favourites to reach the final.
"Everyone will say we are favourites, but we know how hard City are and we will prepare our best to face them," he said.
